She's free until July 5

We just received a text with the above-picture. It was labeled "Bun Hair Even On Libo!" (Libo = Liberty from the base; a pass to be able to leave the base)

She sounds really pumped and very honored to be serving her country on it's birthday. She is doing really well and is now 1/2 way through the program! She said thank you for all the mail as it is SO uplifting - keep it up!

She's going to send me an e-mail all about this past week and I will post it for your reading pleasure!

Happy Birthday, America!

Hi, Leigh; my name is Melanie Underwood McCurdy; I grew up with your Mom and Dad and your Mom and I went to Second Baptist Church together until my family started going to First Baptist when I was around 9th grade. Your Mom and I were best buddies for several years and we spent many Sunday afternoons together. I have enjoyed hearing about you from your Dad and I'm excited for you. I know it's hard work and can be pretty gruelling, but it's worth it. I'll never forget when we got to see our son John after he finished boot camp at Paris Island and then got to hear him tell about the Crucible and how moving it was when they had their ceremony when it was finished. There's nothing like the Marines.
I was very moved when I saw your picture on this post. When I looked at it, there were Deb's eyes looking back at me! You are your Mother's daughter for sure; (your Dad concurs.) I am proud of you and I know your Dad is bursting at the seams and your Mom is beaming from Heaven.
Hang in there.... I'll be looking forward to hearing more about your journey and I wish you every success!
